When two big milestones happen to land around the same time, you’d be forgiven for taking it as a pretty major sign that a party is in order. And Jackie and Ian were not about to ignore that sign.
With their 50th wedding anniversary lining up neatly alongside Jackie’s 70th birthday, the pair knew this called for something properly big. So they put their heads together and decided the best way to mark the double milestone was inviting friends and family round for an afternoon of fun and feasting.
Thankfully, before Jackie even considered tackling the cooking herself, she realised she deserved to actually enjoy her own party just as much as everyone else. So kitchen duties got scrapped entirely, and she gave Hog Roast York a call instead – and we were more than happy to step in.
Our catering manager, Sophie, spent time getting to know the couple ahead of the big day, learning what they had in mind and gradually helping them settle on the perfect menu, which turned out to be our ever-popular Alfresco Menu. Kicking off with a grazing table of Italian meats, rich cheeses, fruit, veggie sticks, dips, dressings and artisan breads, this menu does a brilliant job of putting guests at ease right from the start.
And, just as we’d hoped, Jackie and Ian loved the grazing table – particularly how beautifully it was laid out – and it clearly worked its magic on guests too. But it was the main event that really stole the show. Hog Roast York’s fan-favourite whole hog roast, complete with sage and onion stuffing, crisp crackling and applesauce, proved impossible to resist, with guests going back for more until barely a scrap remained. Fresh salads, marinated chicken thighs, grilled veggie kebabs and BBQ pulled jackfruit burgers rounded out the spread even further, making sure absolutely everyone was well looked after. And the desserts? Let’s just say the sweet tooths were more than satisfied by the end of the night.
With two very good reasons to celebrate, this was always going to be a memorable gathering. And with plenty of good food thrown into the mix, Hog Roast York was more than happy to play our part in making sure Jackie and Ian’s joint celebration was one to remember.
