At Hog Roast Askrigg we always love seeing when initiatives are made with the sole aim of bringing people together. As a caterer a lot of our industry revolves around celebrations amongst people, events where people are enjoying coming together for the first time in a while, sharing time and an experience with each, etc. After all, what is dining if not a great communal activity!
So, when we were contacted by the runners of a new local book club designed specifically to bring anyone and everyone together just to share time with each other on a monthly basis, Hog Roast Askrigg jumped at the opportunity to aid their event. The new book club is sold as one that can be for everyone, regardless of your reading level or even your interest in reading. Reading the book for the month is not necessarily a pre-requisite to come to the meet-up, as it is more aimed at just being a relaxed, easy-going social setting for folk to meet and chat with each other – the book is just a jumping off point for regular discussion.
Creating a relaxed social setting comes even easier when you have the catering of a team like Hog Roast Askrigg involved. As the event could have anything from 20 to 200 people in attendance, our chefs opted with an easy-to-do buffet service, allowing attendees to dine at their own leisure. Since the point of the event is social interaction and discussion, our chefs did not think having heavier-type meals would be suited. People are going to be moving around the room a lot, going from conversation to conversation, so having a stacked dinner plate with full roast dinner on it probably isn’t going to be great. To that end, our dining focused on more easy to grab and eat dishes such as pulled pork rolls, BBQ pulled jackfruit rolls, our fine meat platters with Italian cheeses and breads, skewers of meat or veggie variety, salad bowls, and some lighter bites that you would typically find in our canapé selections for the ultimate pick and go offering.
It was an excellent evening filled with plenty of interesting discussion, and so we at Hog Roast Askrigg would just like to wish all the best to the book club for their future events!
