When a couple announces their engagement, most people around them will assume that the wedding will take place in the spring or summer months. But while it’s true that more than 70% of UK wedding ceremonies take place between April and September, there are still a whole lot of brides and grooms out there who choose to tie the knot outside of ‘peak wedding season’.
As caterers, we’ve noticed that December, especially, has become an extremely popular month for weddings, with many couples eager to draw on the magical atmosphere and feeling of togetherness which is always so present in the lead-up to Christmas. And hoping to liven up their own wedding celebrations with some of this festive cheer, loved-up couple Alice and Mike had chosen to get married earlier this month.
Like many couples, they faced a lot of questions from family and friends about their reasons behind getting married during one of the coldest and busiest months of the year. But one person who understood their vision and supported them throughout their wedding journey was Hog Roast Boroughbridge’s catering manager, Steven.
Having handled countless winter weddings over the years, Steven knew that the couple and their guests were in for an unforgettable day – even if they didn’t know it themselves yet!
An updated Victorian vicarage was the setting for Alice and Mike’s special day, which boasted incredible views of the Yorkshire countryside. Hog Roast Boroughbridge was the first on-site last Saturday and using their time wisely, they managed to cook up an incredible spread before the newlyweds, and their guests arrived to kickstart the celebrations.
As the guests poured into the traditionally-decorated venue, which was warmed by a real log fire, Hog Roast Boroughbridge’s serving staff handed out flute glasses filled with bubbly and fresh orange juice along with a selection of scrumptious appetisers. The main course options, which included a choice of whole-roasted turkey, a classic hog roast or grilled vegetable skewers, were served shortly after everyone had settled into their seats.
The guests were free to top off their sumptuous mains with a choice of salads, mixed vegetables and buttered new potatoes, which tied the meal together nicely.
Bringing the meal to a brilliant conclusion, Hog Roast Boroughbridge treated the wedding party to our homemade sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake desserts, which went down a storm. Everyone was thrilled with the flavours, which they chased down with tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Yum!
As for those who had initially doubted the couple’s winter wedding plans, well, they were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the day! Outside, the weather was cool and crisp, which made for some great photo opportunities, but inside, Hog Roast Boroughbridge’s soul-warming food and the roaring fire kept everyone toasty and warm.
